Global Private Backbone
All Volterra PoPs are redundantly connected in each continent through our own private backbone. This gives customers the performance, reliability and control required for app-to-app connectivity across hybrid or multi-cloud environments.
All services are delivered using the Volterra scale-out software stack, built using microservices, along with automation by our SRE team. Using our distributed control plane, customers’ changes can be deployed globally in less than one second.
VoltMesh and VoltStack are deployed at every Volterra PoP, enabling the Volterra network to provide routing, SD-WAN termination, load balancing, multi-layer security, globally-distributed app gateway, and Kubernetes-based app orchestration.

Customers get automatic security for their infrastructure and apps across hybrid- or multi-cloud with global L3-L7+ DDoS protection. We deliver this capability using a combination of hardware and the advanced software capabilities of VoltMesh.
VoltMesh implements a network firewall and AI-based anomaly detection to prevent attacks at the network-level. All traffic between Volterra PoPs on our private backbone is fully encrypted using IPSec and segmented using L3 VPNs.
Using a combination of threat feeds, signature matching and advanced algorithmic + AI/ML techniques, we protect customer APIs and applications from attacks via the public internet or within the enterprise.
All Volterra PoPs are built using the major colocation facilities of Equinix, Digital Realty and Telehouse, and are operated using strict procedures to ensure secure access to our platform.
IP camera feeds are continuously recorded and monitored at every facility at the cage- and rack-level to ensure there is no tampering with physical infrastructure.
Using fingerprint verification, only authorized Volterra operations engineers are allowed access to our facilities across the globe.
In addition to biometrics, access to any facility by a Volterra operations engineer is validated based on a government-issued identification document reviewed by trained security staff.
