Upgrade Fleet

Objective

This guide provides instructions on how to upgrade a Volterra fleet of sites using the guided wizard in VoltConsole. See Fleet for more information.

Fleet is used to perform upgrade to the Volterra site software and operating system software. You can also use fleet to add or delete devices such as network interfaces or storage devices to the fleet of sites. This document covers information on how to perform software upgrades using the Volterra fleet.

Note: Outcome of attempts to perform upgrades using the fleet are dependent on the Site Software Version Override setting of the site that is part of the fleet. The following list describes the behavior:

  • If the set value of override is Site Version Overrides, then always the version set in site takes precedence.
  • If the set value of override is New Version Overrides, then newer version among site and fleet takes precedence.
  • If the set value of override is Fleet Version Overrides, then always the version set in fleet takes precedence.

Prerequisites

  • Volterra Fleet of sites.

Upgrade Fleet

Perform the following steps to upgrade site software and operating system software:

Step 1: Navigate to your fleet in VoltConsole.
  • Log into VoltConsole and select Manage->Site Management from the configuration menu in the system namespace. Select Fleet from the options.

  • Click ... -> Edit for the fleet object to which your sites are associated with.
Step 2: Set site software version and operating system version.
  • Scroll down to Fleet Configuration section and enter the software version or operating system version to which you want the sites to be upgraded in the Software Version and Operating System Version fields respectively. This example sets both fields.

Note: Navigate to Sites -> Site List and click ... -> Edit for your site and ensure that Fleet Version Overrides option is set for the Site Software Version Override field.

  • Click Save and Exit to save the fleet configuration.

Note: The Sites -> Site List view shows available upgrades to the sites in the SW Version and OS Version fields.

Step 3: Verify the upgrade.
  • Navigate to Fleets -> Overview in the system namespace. A list of fleets gets displayed.
  • Click on the entry for the fleet you updated in previous step. Site map for that fleet is loaded. Click Site List tab to display the list of sites that are part of this fleet.
  • Check the SW version (Current/Status) and OS version (Current/Status) fields. The values with messages Scheduled or In progress indicates that the upgrade is planned or triggered. The message Successful indicates that the upgrade is completed successfully. Ensure that the values match the versions you applied in the fleet configuration.
