Alerts - Email & SMS


This document provides instructions on how to configure alert notifications in VoltConsole to route the alert messages to your Email address or to your mobile phone using SMS. For information on Volterra alerts, see Alerts.



Configuring to send alerts to the Slack channel requires you to create alert receiver, policy, and policy set in the VoltConsole.

Step 1: Start creating the alert policy set.

Log into the VoltConsole and select system namespace or your application namespace in the namespace selector. Select Manage from the configuration menu and Alert Management from the options pane. Select Alert Policy Sets from the options under the Alert Management and click Add Alert policy set.

Step 2: Add alert policies to the policy set.

Add a name and click Select policy object to open the policy selection form. Click Add new Alert Policy.

Step 3: Start configuring alert policy.
  • Enter a name for the policy and click Select receiver object in the Alert Receiver Configuration section.
  • Click Add new Alert Receiver to start creating new alert receiver object.

Step 4: Configure alert receiver
  • Enter name and select Email or SMS for the Receiver field.

  • Enter an email address or phone number in the Email or Contact Number fields according to the selected receiver type. In case of phone number, enter the number in the ITU E.164 format (+[country-code][subscriber-number-including-area-code]).
  • Click Continue to create the receiver and add to the receivers list in the policy object configuration.
  • Select the created receiver and click Select receiver object in the alert receivers page.
Step 5: Complete configuring the alert policy.
  • Click Continue to create the policy object and add to the alert policies list in the policy set object configuration.

  • Select the created policy and click Select policy object in the alert policies page. This applies the policy object to the policy set configuration and returns to the policy set page.

Step 6: Complete creating the alert policy set.

Click Save and Exit to create the policy set.

Step 7: Verify that the alerts are sent.

Select Manage -> Alert Management from the configuration menu and select Alert Receivers from the options. Perform the following:

Step 7.1: Verify the receiver.
  • Depending on your receiver type, do one of the following:

    • Click ... -> Verify Email for receiver of email type. Click Send email in the confirmation box.
    • Click ... -> Verify SMS for receiver of SMS type. Click Send SMS in the confirmation box.

The following is an example of verification option for receiver of type Email.

  • Obtain the verification code from the verification email or SMS sent to your email address or phone number.
  • Click ... -> Enter Verification Code for your receiver object. Enter the code in the verify receiver window and click Verify receiver.

Note: Wait for the notification that the verification is successful.

Step 7.2: Send a test alert.
  • Click ... -> Send Test Alert for your receiver object and click Send test alert in the confirmation window.
  • Check your inbox and verify that the alert is received.
